TWR
celebrates milestone 100 Superkart race meetings. Melbourne
based Superkart race team and Victorian Club members
TrimWorldRacing celebrated their 100th Superkart
race meeting at Calder Park on Saturday the 18th
of October in fine style with pole position and a clean
sweep of all 4 races in the Rotax Max heavy division of the
Victorian Superkart Club race day. Team principal and driver Rod Clarke said after the meeting that “he had been looking forward to the milestone for the last couple of years and to get pole position and win all 4 races from top competitors at my 100th race meeting was one of the highlights of my 20 year racing career”.

also said “the camaraderie of Superkart competitors made
racing in this category of karts all the more enjoyable”.
In particular he mentioned the aftermath of getting put into
a wall in a high speed shunt at Phillip Island in August at
the Superkart Nationals, “the support from fellow
competitors and pit crews at a National level meeting in
getting the kart ready to race again the next day was
outstanding”. Clarke
has competed at National, State and club level meetings
throughout Australia in racking up his 100 race meetings,
winning numerous State and club titles over the years. He
ranks the Winton short circuit and Oran Park South circuit
as the 2 best tracks as a driver but has a soft spot for
Phillip Island because of it’s high speed nature”.
Clarke
leads Colin McIntyre (#7) and Frank Kessels (#28) who were
his main rivals on the day. Photo

team at TWR would like to thank their sponsors for their

Laguna Seca World Superkart Challenge U.S.A.
Victorian Club members Sam Zavaglia, with crew member Stephen Castles have just competed at Laguna Seca on the weekend of October 18 & 19. Sam Placed his Aussie built Stockman superkart on the front row of the grid with former Motorcycle ace Eddie Lawson on Pole. Sam has been keeping us informed with short e mails during the weekend and his final e mail of Race day is included here:
In Practice Eddie Lawson did another crazy time of 1:23.9
after putting 2 sets of tyres on.
I did my best time after running in the new barrel, then
trying 1 fast lap to achieve a 1:24.4.
Man this is going to be a hard and close race!
In the 25min race, I made a bad start that gave Eddie
Lawson a 2.5 sec better 1st lap. From here on it was both
of us doing matching lap times for the next 1/2 of
the race.
In the last half of the race I put my foot down and
was lapping between 1:24.0 and 1:24.1 lap times. The
second last lap I made a new Track Record for
Superkarts of 1:23.6 then Eddie Lawson was
just in front of me.
On the last lap leading up to the corkscrew right on
Eddie's rear bumper I braked just a little too late
as I was airborne over the crest and ran long into
the corkscrew.....onto the dirt and broke the nose cone
when entering the track at the bottom (just like
Stoner/Rossi at MotoGP). The kart pushed real bad through
Rainey curve, and all the way through the next two corners
to take the chequered flag 2nd, just 2secs behind Eddie.
This 25min race was run all in very hard 1:24's lap times
and only a couple of 1:25's, at unbelievable pace for 100%
race distance....definitely the hardest I've ever had to
race....lucky I had been working on my fitness.
The final result was Eddie Lawson 1st, Sam Zavaglia 2nd, and third Mike Wayne from South Australia.
Sam & Eddie The Podium Sam & Stephen
The Victorian Superkart congratulates Sam and Mike on this fantastic achievement. All will now head home to Australia after a short trip to Vegas to compete at the Australian Championships at Mallala in South Australia on November 1 & 2.
Superkart Video's See what all the fuss is about. Ride on board looking over the shoulder of Greg Bass or Stephen Castles driving a 250cc International kart at Australia premier race circuits. Here are some of the viewer comments: Wow those things are fast...Great footage man...Love those dual carbs. Great footage, shame about the dnf. You guys are hardcore racers. All respect to you. I think Superkarts are the heaviest form of racing. Even more so then F1's. Cheers mate
Bass rocks!!
